The Allied Race to Victory documents the progression of World War II from June 1944 through September 1945, as Allied Forces ramped up offensive operations in the Pacific against Japanese forces.
Exploring actions from air, land and sea by the United States Army, Army Air Forces, Marine Corps and Navy, the exhibit highlights the battles and major events that led to the formal surrender by the Japanese on September 2, 1945. Special focus is paid to the American campaign to capture the Mariana Islands, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, along with the push to retake the Philippines. Culminating with the Allied bombing campaign against Japan, the exhibit highlights materials pulled from the collections of the Pritzker Military Museum and Library. The Allied Race To Victory provides a glimpse into America's citizen soldiers and their contribution to the Pacific Theater and eventual defeat of the Japanese forces. Incorporating the stories of individuals and their personal sacrifices creates a richer narrative through which we can understand America's contributions to the Second World War as a whole, and the role the United States played in bringing the war to an end.
The museum is open to the public and features an extensive collection of books, artifacts and rotating exhibits covering many eras and branches of the military. Founded in 2003, the Center provides a place for citizens and soldiers to come together to learn about military history and the military's role in our democracy. The Museum & Library is a non-partisan, non-government information center supported by its members and sponsors.
